What the car is actually for in Tartus
The city itself is small enough to cross on foot in an evening. The reason to have a car here is everything within half an hour of it: the sanctuary in the fields to the south, the castle on the ridge to the north, the beaches on either side that fill up in July, and the hill villages behind the city where the air changes as the road climbs. Six kilometres south, thirty north
Take the short trip first. Amrit sits roughly 6 km south of Tartus: a Phoenician sanctuary with a basin cut into the rock and the tall funerary towers known locally as al-Maghazil. It is a few minutes of driving and, on a weekday morning, often empty.
North, the coast rises. Past Baniyas, about 30 km from Tartus and some forty minutes at the wheel, the black basalt walls of Qalaat al-Marqab stand on a volcanic ridge above the sea. Both directions are short enough that a single day can hold them, with a long lunch in between.
Choosing from the fleet
For a stay spent between the seafront, the souq and the nearest beaches, a compact Hyundai or Kia is the easy answer — it fits the parking that actually exists near the corniche. If the plan leans inland, towards the villages on the slopes east of the city, take something taller and stronger: a Changan or Mitsubishi, or a DFSK. Chevrolet sits comfortably in the middle for a family with luggage and a mixed itinerary.
Setting the handover
Tell us the address and the hour when you book, and we bring the car there — outside a building, at a hotel entrance, beside the seafront, or wherever you are staying along the coast north or south of the city. In summer, and on weekends in particular, the coast books out early; asking a few days ahead gives you a real choice of car rather than whatever is left.
